The above article was written by local news-paper on me and my sports and using sports as a postive way out of coping with having life long learning disabilites and hopes to help others out there is so much a person with learning disabilites and help out with local community or with other volunteer services back in the 1970's and 1980's there wasn't as much help and understanding as there is today.,I no longer bike race or do triathlons anymore is I simply can't afford a bike at this time.,

My wanting to help others came from my parents. 1960's My father 2nd Lt Second Lieutenant Commission.As a Signal Corps Officer as he was a student of Dr. (Ted) Theodore G. Birdsall at the old Cooley Electronics Laboratory at the University of Michigan. And my mother was studing at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. And they still strive to help others through their church.

I was unable to get into and colleges and or Universities due to entry exams. So today I try and do as many free online courses I can to do better and volunteer and be able to maybe help others in the community., Most of what I have done can be seen by seeing the below.,Most but not all of the free online courses offers A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) I have been takening these courses becuase of my volunteer areas and becuase of personal intrest.

I had the had the opportunity to volunteer for The Town of Ridgefield,Connecticut KR1COM EOC Emergency Operations Center Radio Room during Hurricane Irene-Tropical Storm Irene and Nor'easter Alfred Winter Snow Storm Alfred October 2011. I'm a General Class Amateur Radio Operator.But I can not afford my own HF Radio. So rarely on, And unfortunately had to sell my handheld recently my Yaesu VX-8R to help pay for car repairs., Due to limited income., (ARES) Amateur Radio Emergency Service. Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES)Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)Member, As a member of PEARL Putnam Emergency and Amateur Repeater League K2PUT in conjunction with Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services that does Radiological Field Team Monitoring exercises for IPEC-Indian Point nuclear power plant Entergy. Also a Senior Member 2nd Lt in the United States Air Force Auxiliary-Civil Air Patrol member since 1988 out of Danbury Municipal Airport KDXR (Danbury, CT, USA)., Also a member of KX1EOC City Of Danbury,Even with learning disabilities I have made these accomplishments.

I was also a member of the New York Guard-New York State Guard a SDF State Defence Force at Camp Smith from 2000-2003.And put onto State Active Duty During Operation World Trade Center Incident September 11,2001 in helping to Secure Camp Smith.

Currently working my studies and testing with the Firefighter's Handbook: Essentials of Firefighting in conjunction with the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department RVFD in which I should be volunteering for there Fire-Police soon., As of 05 February 2012 still in studies,testing and training

One day I would like to take the Public Service and Emergency Communications Management for Radio Amateurs- Course #: EC-016
but at $39.00 to join ARRL for 1 year, and then and then other cost of $35 for Taking the Final Assessment. It's kind of hard to do when on limited income and bills to pay,

Tropical Storm Irene-Hurricane Irene and Nor'easter Alfred Winter Snow Storm Alfred October 2011

Both these storms effected the power in our town and the State of Connecticut.
ABC News was in Town Of Ridgefield,CT Connecticut a few times during Nor'easter Alfred Winter Storm Alfred October 2011. Reporting about the power issues and also the temps droping and our shelter warming station.

Since and because of my learning disabilities I was unable to get into and colleges and or Universities due to entry exams. I found this great information and studying and testing skills as I'm Currently working my studies and testing with the Firefighter's Handbook: Essentials of Firefighting in conjunction with the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department RVFD in a 6 months of training etc to hope be able to volunteer for there Fire-Police., As of 15 January 2012 still in training and classes. And working on the very hard HazMat sections.

I have been trying to figure out with no luck on where I'm getting a water leak in my rear hatch area on top ( header liner ). For my 1998 Saturn SW2. Station Wagon. I have pulled the top piece of inside trim in hopes to watch and see the water drip but can't, Though that water was coming from the bolts that attach the hatch on the car but it doesn't see like that is it. But noticed coming from two different side on the right and on the left in the back and hitting coming down on the cloth hatch storage cover. Anybody out there have any ideas ?

As a member of the United States Air Force Auxiliary-Civil Air Patrol in my opinion find this IS-139 Exercise Design important it should be suggested to be a prerequisite for anyone designing a Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX)as the last word in SAREX is Exercise.,

As I say this and took part recently at a SAREX number : 11T4875---11-T-4875 2 April 2011 that was USAF United States Air Force evaluated. As we had a USAF Officer do an evaluation on us. As this was USAF United States Air Force funded., We had the The Incident Commander - (IC) was at a McGuire AFB New Jersey. A US Air Force Base. But a group of us Civil Air Patrol Members where doing nothing from 7:30am-4:30pm on a nice Saturday weekend in April 2011. At Mission Base (DXR) Danbury Airport

I was only able to sell food., And got no training like a group of us.,

Nobody wanted to set up a computer station or have a person at a computer to be able to open a Civil Air Patrol Members SQTR'S Specialty Qualification Training Records and there was no information sent to members that prior to the SAREX one had to already have there SQTR'S open in the area that they wanted to train in during the SAREX.

I have taken part in my other fuctions that the Exercise had be designed well and all Participants got to take part in.,In other areas I'm a volunteer for. Such as Radiological Field Team Monitoring as well as radiological decontamination drills and exercises at reception centers. And also Point of Distribution (POD)and also a Pandemic Flu Drill.

There is alot of very good useful information on this course in which can be downloaded. Most of it is in MS Word and you can have the complete course as a zip drive.

Another good thing for Participants to have and or get issued is the Player Handbook

I'm kind of writting my own personal after-action-report on SAREX in which is all my own opinion. Better training and awareness for us all might have had a better outcome for all of us Participants and not been and or feel excluded from participating.

We are all vounteers and voulnteering our time

A special note that my own personal computer system crashed once the
power went out so posting to my blog via the Town Of Ridgefield
Library. wrote this on Nov 8th 2011 and still a little tired from
all.,

I had spent two nights at the Town Of Ridgefield,CT Connecticut EOC
Emergency Operations Center. And then was lucky to get my power back
on since lived in the center of town., So able to sleep in my own bed
but went back to EOC for days following to man the communications
amateur radio ham radio room., Even helping with faxes and other
things as well.

All of the volunteers of the Town Of Ridgefield,CT Connecticut and
professional people did an excellent job durring this Nor'easter
Alfred Winter Storm Alfred October 2011.

We had two other Amateur Radio Ham Radio Operators helping to man the
communications amateur radio ham radio room. W1JMA John and also K3SOC
Paul.

We had also Ridgefield,CT Connecticut CERT Community Emergency
Response Team Personal as well taking phone calls ( our phone banks ) in the EOC from
town residents reporting information to us.,

We had other personal helping out with the Emergency Shelter & Warming
Center first at the Yanity Gym then at the Ridgefield Connecticut
Parks and Recreation Center.

Remember that Without electrical power, gas pumps no longer work same with ATM machines and other iteams.

This above system CT Alert did an excellent job durring Nor'easter Alfred Winter Storm Alfred October 2011. Since I live in the Town of Ridgefield and even though working out of the EOC I still got calls from this service from First Selectman, Rudy Marconi about the town's shelters and the situation about the power lines and trees down and the power outages. It's a get tool to have and have the Citizen Sign-Up which is free.

This 30 second test is scheduled for November 9, 2011

As many of you are aware, on Wednesday, November 9th at 2:00pm EST, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), in conjunction with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and will be transmitted via television and radio stations across the U.S.

The national Emergency Alert System is an alert and warning system that can be activated by the President, if needed, to provide information to the American public during emergencies. While the system is often tested in local markets (a test with which you and the American public may be very familiar), a nationwide test will be instrumental in evaluating and improving the system, should it ever be needed.

Over the past year, our agencies have been working extensively with our state, local, tribal, and territorial partners, and other critical stakeholders to help inform all members of the public regarding the nationwide test. Now, with the test less than a week away, we ask that you join us in efforts to educate the public about this important event.

You can help us in a number of ways: your principals and colleagues can help us spread the word; you can help us by including a message in your newsletters/bulletins, updating your homepages through notification boxes, blogs and online videos; you can help in our Twitter campaign, in the days leading up to the test and during the test; post a Facebook notice about the test; and send notices to colleagues and community members.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Connecticut and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from a severe storm during the period of October 29-30, 2011.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that federal disaster aid has been made available to the State of Connecticut and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from a severe storm during the period of October 29-30, 2011.

The President's action authorizes FEMA to coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures, authorized under Title V of the Stafford Act, to save lives and to protect property and public health and safety, and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe in all counties in the State of Connecticut.

Specifically, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75 percent federal funding.

Stephen M. De Blasio Sr. has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area.

Ark Built, the lead local contractor working with the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew, has announced a pair of local charities helping children and families with disabilities, including autism, as the recipients of community donations once the Builder/Family Fund goal is reached. The charities receiving community funds are Southern Oregon Sparrow Clubs and Jackson County's Families for Community program.

C.J. and Lindsay McPhail started the Southern Oregon Chapter of Sparrow Clubs, a non-profit organization, which helps children with medical issues by pairing them with a school which adopts them as their school’s "Sparrow." The McPhail's helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for kids with medical needs, and were able to help transform schools by challenging students to look beyond themselves and serve. After serving as directors, the McPhail's oldest son Sawyer was diagnosed with autism and the boy was eventually chosen to be a "Sparrow."

Jackson County's Families for Community program helps families who have children who experience disabilities of all kinds. The program reaches out and provides parent connections, play groups, social opportunities, advocacy training and support for over 175 families, as well as guidance and information for many more. The program was founded by Emile Sampson, whose son Parker was diagnosed with autism and whose husband Matt is the current director of Southern Oregon Sparrow Clubs.

"We are absolutely blessed by this entire process," said C.J. McPhail. "Our family has tremendous appreciation to both of these organizations and we are excited that they will be receiving some much needed funds to help further their efforts to serve Southern Oregon."

"These are two wonderful community organizations helping children and their families who are going through difficult times," said Rush Behnke of Ark Built. "We are pleased to choose them for charitable contributions and look forward to seeing the community respond."

Current monetary donations go toward the Builder/Family Fund which helps pay for things not donated during the build, as well as trust accounts to help maintain the new home. All donations above the necessary funds will go directly to the Southern Oregon Sparrow Club and Families for Community.

The Mission : Mission
The sole purpose of our Foundation is to honor the legacy of love given to us by Stephen Siller, FDNY, who laid down his life on 9/11, by “doing good” in his name. The mission is to follow Stephen’s footsteps through support of children who have lost a parent, firefighters, and military who have been seriously injured and sacrifice their quality of life in the line of duty.

For my 2nd year ( 2010-2011 ) that I was again able to take part and volunteer with the USAF-Civil Air Patrol ( CT-WING )Civil Air Patrol - United States Air Force Auxiliary. Being from Ridgefield,Connecticut I was up at 3am to be at the squadron hanger at Danbury Municipal Airport at 4am as our van was leaving at 4:30 am to get down to NYC New York City for the event. Our first duties was to keep the walkers separated from the runners the done for safty reasons.

After we where done with our volunteer work job then we where able to run with everyone. We took or postions at the end of the runners but in front of the walkers.

Again it was an honor and privilege to be able to come down and volunteer for this event. As has personal meaning to me as well. Reporting to Camp Smith Training Site (CSTS) on 9/11 and then a few days later State Active Duty SAD for “Operation World Trade Center” helping to guard the front entry Camp Smith Training Site with The New York Guard.

Sorry about how the pictures show up on different computer screens with the captions with the photos. It takes alot of time to try and make everthing perfect and I do not know html coding :(

It was great to meet comedian Dennis Miller and George Siller for a photo. I wish I could meet everyone that did an excellent job putting on this event for a great cause. Many thanks to all the volunteers and the get support from volunteers and runners and walkers of this great event. And maybe one day have one of these events in Ridgefield,Connecticut as there are some of these events all over the United States. I just do not know how to put together one of these events.

It was also great to see and hear the great music by the Lt. Dan Band as some of the USAF-Civil Air Patrol members cadets and senior members got to get close near the stage. Wish I could have stayed for it all. Thanks to all that made that possible,

Hurricane Irene Tropical Storm Irene 2011 working the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES)- Radio Amateur Civil Emergency (RACES)Ham Radio Station KR1COM at the Town Of Ridgefield, Connecticut EOC Emergency Operations Center was an expericne. Working along and among town officals. We in the Amateur Radio side had a 4 man crew. This was an expenice and my first experince working in this type of capacity at the Town Of Ridgefield EOC Emergency Operations Center. Even with all my FEMA coures I have taken a new experince.

We worked with the communications radios fax machine etc. Everyone did a great job including the great staff we had answering the phones for the non-emergency numbers

We where all in it together and worked together to get through this.,

After I was releved from my duites on Tueday afternoon at the EOC Radio Room I still had my duites to do with the RVFD Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department Tuesday Night 7pm Truck Check and Drill Nights every Tuesday Night as I just became a "Probie" with the RVFD Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department so I can become a member a there Fire-Police. Currently on 6 months of truck checks and drills/studing and test

Tired and sleepy we did the truck checks and worked on drying the trucks off after being washed. Some of the RVFD Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department members/staff had been there at the station since the begining on Hurricane Irene and again a great job.

We had the HWN The Hurricane Watch Net 14.325 frequency and on 7.268 n one of our HF Radio's and on the other HF Radio we had the Amatuer Radio The CT Phone Net (CPN)

Public NOAA NWS Documents and Safety Guides such as Hurricane Preparedness Guide and Hurricane Familiarization Booklet

The on VHF we had the W1QI 147.300 Repeater on and also the KR1COM repeater 145.47 and also a linked repeater as well. During the late evening I tried to check into the W9BRO The Brothers Net when K3TCU Gary was Net Control that evening. But I never made it. Since I'm to poor and don't even own my own HF rig even though a General Class Lienece it was kind of nice trying to make a contact on my own when it was quite at our shack.

We had local Amateur Radio Ham Radio operators that where driving around town after the storm had gone and passed calling into the VHF fequencys KR1COM repeater 145.47 and W1QI 147.300 given us reports of where wires and or tree downs and what intersections and or road names. This way we could write down the information and pass it along. This way we had an overview and we could mark it on the town map. We also had our RVFD Fire-Police sending us reports via VHF fequencys as well. As some of the RVFD Fire Police as have there Amateur Radio Ham Radio license. Kind of like having field teams out on the road checking in to our Radio room at the EOC.

Instead of doing a Radiological Field Team Monitoring they where doing power/wires and tree down reporting. Without putting themselfs in danger. WA8UNS has help out the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services PEARL K2PUT in Putnam County in New Radiological Training and Radiological Field Team Monitoring with Entergy from Indian Point

Thomas' home away from home set up on a shelter cot sleeping bag and shelter blanket and pillows I brought from home for 3 night stay

American Red Cross Disaster Services and Shelter was set up at the Town of Ridgefield Yanity Gym. Many thanks goes to the American Red Cross for providing food and other supplies to us.

This above system CT Alert did an excellent job durring Hurricane Irene. Since I live in the Town of Ridgefield and even though working out of the EOC I still got calls from this service from First Selectman, Rudy Marconi about the town's shelters and the situation about the power lines down and the power outages. It's a get tool to have and have the Citizen Sign-Up which is free.
